Jules Horowitz Reactor (JHR): Start-up equipments and experimental utilities to prepare commissioning

  • 1. CEA, DEN, Cadarache, 13108 Saint Paul Lez Durance (France)

Description

After some updates on JHR construction, the paper describes the planned activities foreseen for reactor start-up operations, as well as for the integration of the experimental devices. That equipment are parts of the Jules Horowitz Reactor (JHR) under construction. As part of the JHR organization, the ''Equidem'' project is studying and realizing equipment's supply essential to the divergence, the setting-up in power of the JHR and the fleet of experimental devices. In order to achieve these objectives, it sets up a CEA internal project management structure. The following equipment's are identified: • Neutron start-up sources and neutron poison absorbers • Start-up instrumentation devices used for JHR acceptance tests. • Devices for vessel surveillance • Devices devoted to the production of radioisotopes According their own needs, experimental devices (R&D activities - materials and fuels – radioisotope production) need to be connected to experimental utilities ("common means"). CEA will study, realize and use them in a coordinated way in compliance with JHR construction. It is about building the spine that will allow the JHR to develop its experimental capacity as quickly as possible when it gets full power. Finally, the project embarks a role of architect of the experimental domain (expression of needs in accordance with the customers, development, configuration and interfaces management).
