Description
The effect of the degree of cellulose crystallinity (and accessibility) on its gamma-radiolysis has been studied. Radiation yields of main chain degradation and these of oxidized group formation (carboxyl, carbonyl and aldehyde) for cellulose preparations of a different degree of structural arrangement (crystallinity) were estimated. It was found that there are great differences in the yield of main chain scission and the formation of oxidized groups in the relation to the degree of crystallinity. 29 refs. (author)
