A resonance against a sharply varying background: The case of the 4He-Σ hypernucleus

  • 1. Lebedev Institute of Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Leninskii pr. 53, Moscow, 117924 (Russian Federation)

Description

It is shown that the amplitude describing the production of 4He-Σ hypernuclei in the reaction 4He(K-,π-) is a sharply varying function of the mass of the hypernuclear system in the region corresponding to the Σ4He state. This leads to a small, but quite noticeable, change in the binding energy and width of the Σ4He state. That the width of the Σ4He state does not exceed 8.0-8.5 MeV is additionally supported by data obtained in the mass region near the threshold of Σ0 production and analyzed with allowance for the special features of the reaction mechanism
