Description

The nuclear power industry, like all complex industrial activities, result in the production of wastes. Radioactive waste at Sellafield arises from the reprocessing of spent fuel. Currently this is Magnox fuel but in the early 1990s, when the Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (THORP) begins to operate, it will also come from the Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor (AGR) fuel in the UK and from overseas Light Water Reactor (LWR) fuel
