Positron annihilation in unsaturated normal aliphatic hydrocarbons

  • 1. Department of Physics, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky 40208

Description

Positron annihilation time spectra in n-hexane, 1-hexene, 1,5-hexadiene, 1,3-hexadiene, and 1-hexyne have been studied. It is found that the cross sections of triplet positroniums in a series of unsaturated normal aliphatic hydrocarbons with the same carbon number have a negative linear dependence on polarizability. The low triplet positronium intensities of 1,3-hexadiene and 1-hexyne are related to resonance and fast chemical quenching, respectively
