Computer codes for describing the natural circulation systems for passive after-heat removal of the European Fast Reactor (EFR)

Description

The aim of the work was a survey of the state of code development and validation with regard to the practical application to project requirements. Summarizing, one can say that the coupled 1D/2D methods are to the fore among the applications. Their development is relatively advanced. Improvements are required in the elimination of numerical instabilities and in the computing time. For the 3D codes, further improvements are required in the computing time and in the treatment of irregular structures affecting the flow. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Ziel der Arbeit war eine Uebersicht ueber den Stand der Codeentwicklung und Validation im Hinblick auf die praktische Anwendung auf die Projekterfordernisse. Zusammenfassend laesst sich feststellen, dass von den Anwendungen her die gekoppelten 1D/2D-Methoden im Vordergrund stehen. Ihre Entwicklung ist relativ weit fortgeschritten. Verbesserungen sind erforderlich bei der Eliminierung von numerischen Instabilitaeten und bei der Rechenzeit. Bei den 3D-Codes sind weitere Verbesserungen bei der Rechenzeit sowie bei der Behandlung von die Stroemung beeinflussenden unregelmaessigen Strukturen erforderlich. (orig.)
