Comparison of resonance self-shielding calculations for analyses of tight-pitch lattice core experiments at the kuca

  • 2. Osaka Univ., Suita (Japan)

Description

A series of experiments on thight-pitch lattice cores has been performed at the KUCA using uranium fueled cores as a joint study of a university association. In the KUCA experiments, natural uranium (NU) plates were located adjacent to enriched uranium-aluminum alloy (EU) plates, which contain the same resonance materials (235U and 238U) of quite different number densities compared with the NU plate. For such a case, it is a problem how to generate the effective cross sections. Therefore, the results of resonance self-shielding calculations based on a few methods were compared with those of a Monte Carlo code VIM
