IAEA waste management activities

The increasing industrial use of nuclear power for electricity production will lead to increased quantities and activity of radioactive wastes that must be safely managed and disposed of in a manner that ensures the protection of man and his environment. The IAEA will continue to provide a suitable forum for exchange of waste management information among its Member States and the interested international organizations to help achieve this goal. The Agency will continue its activities to collect, review and disseminate up-to-date information; develop guidelines and support research in various areas including in the field of handling, treatment and conditioning of all king of radioactive wastes, underground disposal of wastes as well as the environmental aspects of nuclear facilities. The Agency welcomes suggestions and inputs from experts on new initiatives or changes in the program direction to enable the Agency to serve better the interests of its Member States
