The place value of the MRT and the oncological aftercare from central nervous tumors of children
Description
Since it's clinical establishment the MRI is very important for the diagnosis of CNS tumors. Compared with CT the MRI is superior in many ways; especially the lack of any biological risk is an important factor. The aim of this paper was to show the value of MRI in the follow-up of pediatric brain-tumors. 30 children with in the age of 18 months to is years were involved in this study. The preoperative and postoperative findings, the operation results and the results of the chemo/radiotherapy were described. The MRI was the best and most sensitive method for showing early changes, such as: tumorprogression, tumorregression, metastasis and adverse effects. With the MRI invasive procedures like contrast media application were not necessary in the majority of patients. For the future you can expect the following improvements: functional/perfusion/diffusion imaging. (author)
