Development of plasma melting technology for treatment of low level radioactive waste, (1)

Description
Non-contaminated materials simulating low level radioactive waste in nuclear power plant were melted by plasma heating. The properties of the dust in the off-gas have been investigated. (1) The dust flow rate and concentration depend strongly on the saturated vapor pressure of the molten materials. (2) There are two local maximum values, below 0.4 μm and between 4 and 8 μm, in the particle size distribution. Considering the properties of dust and off-gas, it was found that the conventional dust collecting technologies can be used for the plasma melting system. (author)
