Investigation of the hydrogen-desorption of monocrystalline silver-surface
Description
Adsorption and desorption of hydrogen and deuterium on Ag(100) and Ag(110) monocrystals have been investigated. The thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDs) has been used in connection with scanning electron microscopy. Atomic hydrogen has been adsorbed on silver surfaces which show an isotopic effect relating to adsorption and desorption kinetics. This effect can be explained by the different diffusive properties of the two isotopes in silver crystals. The desorption of large quantities of hydrogen resp. deuterium on Ag-surfaces can be described by a process of zero order. Thereby the diffusion of the atoms into the crystal volume is important.
