The relationship between type IV collagen and diabetic microangiopathy

  • 1. Hospital No. 2 Affiliated Dalian Medical Uiversity, Dalian (China)

Description

Objective: To explore the value of urinary type IV collagen for early diagnosis of diabetic microangiopathy. Methods: Urinary IV C was determined by radioimmunoassay in 35 normal subjects and 86 patients with diabetes. Correlation analysis was made between urinary IV C amount and course of disease, age, blood IVC, FBG, INS, SBp. Results: The concentration of urinary IVC in controls, patients without and with diabetic microangiopathy were 77.70 ± 12.91 μg/24 h, 88.74 ± 19.58 μg/24 h, 129.99 ± 30.23 μg/24 h respectively. The concentration of urinary IVC in patients with microangiopathy was higher than those of patients without microangiopathy and control (p < 0.001, 0.001); and urinary IVC in patients without microangiopathy was also significantly higher than that of control (p < 0.01). There was positive correlation between urinary IVC and course of disease, blood IVC and SBp. Conclusion: Urinary IVC is a sensitive marker for the early diagnosis of diabetic microangiopathy
