The generator coordinate method and collective Hamiltonians for the isoscalar monopole vibrations
Description
The merits of a simple generator coordinate method (GCM) description of the breathing mode are investigated. It yields very good excitation energies for 40Ca, 90Zr, 140Ce and 208Pb. The results are compared with experiment and with other theories. Consideration is also given to collective formalisms derived from the GCM and they are found to constitute an excellent approximation to the exact GCM. (author)
