20 years' Zittau Technical University - centre of instruction and research within the GDR organization of higher education

Description

The establishment of higher education has made long-term arrangements in the enhanced use of nuclear power for electricity and heat supply in the GDR, necessary after 1990, by, among other things, erection of a nuclear power centre at the Zittau College founded in 1969 as a College of Advanced Technology and now named Zittau Technical University. First, transition to the enhanced use of nuclear power is briefly substantiated, followed by an overview describing the profile and status of evolution of the power-oriented Zittau Technical University and the potential of nuclear power embedded in it. Significant nuclear power related experimental facilities for research, education and training as well as selected scientific results of works concerned with nuclear power engineering are presented.
