Description
The results of high-field experiments on two Ising-5f systems, a large-moment (∼2 μB) antiferromagnet UPd2Si2 and a tiny-moment (∼10-2 μB) heavy-electron system URu1-xRhxSi2, are presented. The entire feature of the magnetic phase diagram of the former is obtained, and analyzed in terms of the axial-next-nearest-neighbor Ising (ANNNI) model. A field-induced breakdown of the heavy-electron state is observed in the latter. The microscopic origin of the Ising anisotropy is also discussed in the light of our recent data of Th substitutions for U. (author)
