Relevance of the post-accident doctrine for accidents other than those that may occur at a NPP. Case of uranium releases - Report
Description
The Post-Accident Management Steering Committee (CODIRPA) has issued new recommendations on post-accident doctrine in 2019 (then in 2022), recommendations drawn up primarily for accidents at nuclear power plants. ASN asked IRSN to examine the extent to which these recommendations are relevant in the case of accidental releases of α-emitting radionuclides, using uranium as an example. The report presents information on the behavior of uranium in the environment and in the human organism, on the metrology of uranium isotopes in the environment and in the organism, and on the exposure pathways contributing to radiological and chemical impact. Finally, the robustness of CODIRPA's recommendations in the case of accidental releases in which uranium is the main component is discussed
Abstract (French)
Le Comite Directeur pour la gestion de la phase Post-Accidentelle (CODIRPA) a emis en 2019 (puis en 2022) de nouvelles recommandations sur la doctrine post-accidentelle, recommandations etablies en premier lieu pour des accidents sur des CNPE. L'ASN a demande a l'IRSN d'examiner dans quelle mesure ces recommandations sont pertinentes dans le cas de rejets accidentels de radionucleides emetteurs α, a partir de l'exemple de l'uranium. Le rapport presente des elements de connaissance sur le comportement de l'uranium dans l'environnement et dans l'organisme humain, sur la metrologie des isotopes de l'uranium dans l'environnement et dans l'organisme, ainsi que sur les voies d'exposition contribuant a l'impact radiologique et chimique. Enfin, la robustesse des recommandations du CODIRPA dans le cas de rejets accidentels dont l'uranium est le principal element est discutee. (auteurs)
