Properties of the ideal-MHD m = 1 mode in tokamaks

  • 1. Massachusetts Inst. of Tech., Cambridge

Description

Large aspect ratio asymptotic expansions about circular cylinder solutions are used to investigate the ideal-MHD structure of m = 1 modes in current carrying axisymmetric toroidal plasmas. The linear eigenfunctions are assumed to be dominated by an m = 1 poloidal harmonic, which couples to small amplitude m = 0 and m = 2 sidebands through the poloidal modulation of the equilibrium functions
