Natural radioactivity aspects of the marine environment

  • 1. Dept. of Environmental Sciences, Bangalore University, Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalore (India)

Description

A review of the natural radioactivity distributions and their movement in the oceans and their significance, is of considerable interest, while attempting to understand the impact of man-made radioactivity sources on the marine environment. In this context the interesting environmental behaviour of Radium isotopes (226Ra and 228Ra) and 210Pb and 210Po pair of radionuclides in the marine environment -occurring in 238U and 232Th natural radionuclides series have been the subject of considerable investigations as part of the marine biogeochemical studies, some aspects of which are discussed
