Pecularities of cytogenetic effect of neutrons

Description

The assumption of a higher effectiveness of neutrons as compare with rare ionizing radiation due to the absence of reparation after neutron irradiation was checked. Comparison of chromosomal aberration yield dependences on time after neutron and gamma-irradiation suggests that the role of postradiation processes in the determination of sensitivity to neutron irradiation is insignificant. After neutron irradiation no differences in the injury of humid and dry seeds in all fixation periods were observed. Sprouts of crepis were irradiated by Co60 gamma-quanta and neutrons of the average energy 0.85 MeV with the dose of 1 Gy both in combination and separately. Independent of the order of the irradiations the effect observed was considerably less pronounced that for single neutron irradiation. The result obtained testify to the fact that in contrast to gamma-radiation neutrons do not cause emergency reparation
