Extrusion of nanocomposite Al90Fe5Nd5 powders and characterization of the consolidated material

Description

In this work, a new Al90Fe5Nd5 nanocomposite atomized powder was extruded applying different processing parameters and the resulting bulk material was microstructurally and mechanically characterized. Successful extrusion was obtained for an extrusion ratio of 7:1 and extrusion temperatures of 370 and 450 deg. C. Yield strengths up to 726 MPa were obtained. A linear relationship between hardness and yield strength was found, which would lead to a yield strength as high as 900 MPa for the 25-50 μm powder extruded at 370 deg. C
