Study of a region's clay of Campos dos Goytacazes-RJ for application in red ceramic industry

Description
This work aims to study a region's clay of Campos dos Goytacazes - RJ for possible application in the red ceramic industry. The clay was subjected to tests of X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, sieving and sedimentation by gravity and plasticity tests. Subsequently body test were prepared by pressing for burning in muffle furnace at temperatures of 750 ° C, 850 ° C and 950 deg C. The ceramic samples were tested for water absorption and breakdown voltage of three point bending. The results indicated that the clay contains predominantly kaolinite, muscovite mica, gibbsite and quartz, and it is presented as a plastic material and should be used in combination with a non-plastic material.
