Weak neutral current effects in double-boson exchange processes in high energy e+e- collisions

Description

Double photon processes of the type e+e- → e+e-#betta##betta# → e+e-μ+μ-, have been studied extensively. In this thesis, we shall study the neutral current effects due to double-boson processes of the type e+e- → e+e-#betta#Z0 → e+e-μ+μ-. Our work is based on the standard Weinberg-Salam SU(2) x U(1) model of electroweak interaction. We use the method of Monte Carlo integration to calculate the effects of neutral currents on cross-sections, asymmetry and polarization in the above mentioned process. Dominant cross-sections due to neutral currents are of the order 10-15 to 1014b in the CM energy range 60 to 200 GeV. These effects are coming within the range of measurability of the new e+e- collider at LEP. Our method of investigation can be applied to a variety of double-boson processes, including those occurring in nu N and nu e- collisions. We expect that double-boson processes will become increasingly important as energy accessible in particle beam facilities increases
