Stress induced redistribution of deuterium atoms in α-NbD0.2

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan). Inst. for Materials Research

Description

A single crystal neutron diffractometry was employed to investigate the distribution of deuterium atoms in elastically deformed α-NbD0.2 at 453K (180deg C). Site occupancies and coordinates of deuterium atoms were obtained in the compressed and stretched α-NbD0.2 single crystals at the strains of ε33 = 0, ±2 x 10-4 and ε<111> = 0, ±1, ±2 x 10-4, respectively. The changes were consistent with those of strained α - VD0.3. The temperature change possibly due to the redistribution of hydrogen atoms was measured by a newly designed alternating-strain thermal analyzer operated at 1.5 Hz in the temperature range from 300 to 430K.
