Ion source

Description

The ion source of the mass spectrometer containing an anode a filamentary cathode and stretching electrode is described. To increase efficiency and improve analytical characteristics, the anode is made in the form of a double conic spiral. The inlet of the stretching electrode made as a hollow-space cylinder and equipped with an angular rotation device is placed along the spiral axis. The stretching electrode as a thin-walled cylinder permits to form a ion beam with small divergence and decreases substantially the penetration of an analyser high-frequency field into the ionization region, thus increasing stability of ion source opration. Establishment of the stretching electrode with angular rotation relatively to the anode axis permits to increase the sensitivity of the mass spectrometer, where the ion source suggested is used
