Point of zero charge of hydrous zirconium oxide and its strontium sorption properties
- 1. Fuel Chemistry Div., Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)
Description
Hydrous zirconium oxide (HZO) was prepared by the hydrolysis of zirconyl chloride solution using ammonia. Point of zero charge (pHpzc) of HZO was determined by pH titration technique. Distribution coefficient (Kd) for strontium on HZO was obtained at various concentrations of sodium ions. Log(Kd) vs. log[Na+] plot showed that sorption does not follow pure ion exchange mechanism.
