Description

Eu(III)β''-alumina can be synthesized by ion exchange of the fast ion conductor Na+β''-alumina. The lanthanide β''-aluminas may find applications in optical devices. Some of the Eu(III) ions in the structure can be reduced by heating under vacuum, greatly affecting the structure and optical properties of the material. In this paper, this reaction has been studied at 295 K with Moessbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and fluorescence spectroscopy. 6 refs.; 3 figs
