Filtered energy dispersive detector (EDD) arrays: Superior detectors for EXAFS from very diluted solutions

Description
EXAFS fluorescence detectors are considered as general filters and a distinction drawn between fine filters, whose effective count rate is linear in sample concentration, and coarse filters, which are quadratic. A generalized model is developed to compute and compare the capabilities of EDD arrays, Stern/Heald, and Barrel detectors. For solution concentration between 3 mM and 30 μM, EDD arrays are superior detectors, offering real gains of up to 2 orders of magnitude. (orig.)
