The environmental performance indicators in the sector of tourist services. The case of study about an international hotel group

Description
The environmental performance indicators in the tourism sector represents the necessary element to quantify and to simplify information about the environmental performance of a particular field in order to make the comprehension of the interactions between tourist activities and environment understood by the customers and decision makers. This indicators will have to be quantified in order to contribute to focus and explain improvements in environmental management. One of the most important elements to pursue a Sustainable Development is the definition of a series of the right indicators. Basically performance indicators can be applied in the environmental analyses effected for defining the politics of management of tourist development and, particularly, in the procedures of Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment disciplined by the European Directives 85/337/CEE, 97/11/CEE, from the proposal of Directive on the SEA and from the relative national normative. This tools should allow to esteem environmental conditions and the impacts caused by the tourist activities to find actions to balance the budget between the economic development and the social and environmental issues i a determined territorial context

Gli indicatori di performance ambientale applicati al settore del turismo costituiscono l'elemento necessario per quantificare e semplificare le informazioni sulle prestazioni ambientali del settore preso in considerazione, in modo da agevolare, sia da parte dei responsabili delle decisioni, sia da parte del pubblico e dei clienti, la comprensione delle interazioni tra le attivita' turistiche e l'ambiente e le relative criticita'. Tali indicatori dovranno essere quantificati per contribuire ad individuare e a spiegare i miglioramenti ottenuti nel tempo. La definizione di un quadro di indicatori adeguato costituisce pertanto uno degli elementi essenziali per il raggiungimento di uno Sviluppo Sostenibile. In particolare gli indicatori di performance possono essere introdotti nell'applicazione dei sistemi di gestione ambientale secondo EMAS, ovvero nelle analisi ambientali iniziali di sito e nel relativo Piano di sorveglianza e misurazioni, ma anche utilizzati per definire le politiche di gestione di sviluppo turistico di un'area o di un distretto turistico e, in particolare, nelle procedure di Valutazione di Impatto Ambientale (V.I.A.) e di Valutazione Ambientale Strategica (V.A.S.) e dalle relative normative nazionali. Gli indicatori di performance ambientale dovrebbero permettere di stimare lo stato delle condizioni ambientali e gli impatti causati dalle attivita' turistiche al fine di individuare anche azioni di risposta per equilibrare il bilancio tra lo sviluppo economico e le necessita' sociali e ambientali in un determinato contesto territorialeAdditional details
