Description

The PCU (Plasma Control Upgrade) project is about the enhancement of JET vertical stabilisation to handle larger Elms (> 1 MJ), it requires new amplifier (25 MW → 60 MW), radial field turn flexibility and a new controller. Every aspects of the new controller were subject of significant development. This series of slides describes every aspects of the new controller: hardware, operating system (Linux RTAI), software architecture and the controller and simulator architectures. The applications are made within MARTe (Multi Application Real Time) modular framework. Thanks to hardware reference switch it was possible to test the new controller in many tails of JET experiments and the control of plasmas from breakdown has been demonstrated. The analog-to-digital converters have larger dynamic range and can follow a magnetic signal during Elm. Globally, real time performance was better than expected. (A.C.)
