BR2: 50 years and still going strong
Description
Two important decisions have been taken in order to ensure successful and safe future operation of the BR2 reactor. The forthcoming decennial safety reassessment will be undertaken with the intention to ensure another 10 years of operation from mid-2016 on. Particular efforts will be concentrated on the two following aspects: Long Term Operation (LTO) and Design Review. In order to gain more operational flexibility, including the ability to increase the annual capacity factor from 2016 on, a 'proactive' replacement of the Bematrix has been decided. This operation will also allow for better conditions to conduct a number of in-service inspections and install some design upgrades
