Data not included in thyroid examination. Question about an English paper and Shinichi Suzuki's surgical data

  • 1. Physicians for Social Responsibility (United States)

Description

In the 'Fukushima Journal of Medical Science' of the Fukushima Medical Association dated December 13, 2019, a preliminary report (a full version was also announced later) regarding the results of the survey of out-of-counting cases that are not included in the thyroid examination of the Fukushima Health Management Survey was published. The authors are Mr. Susumu Yokoya et al. of Fukushima Medical University (Yokoya paper). Out-of-counting cases are the cases that are not included in the number of cases of thyroid cancer reported by the 'Prefectural Health Management Survey' Review Committee, including the cases that were deleted from the framework of formal thyroid examinations in the course or the cases found elsewhere without receiving thyroid examination. This paper described the flow of the out-of-counting cases and the survey results of these cases. It also described the problems with nationally registered cancer data and the limitations of research surveys. After that, Mr. Shinichi Suzuki, who is a professor at the endocrinology course at Fukushima Medical University, published the pathological data of 19 cases of out-of-counting, but these 19 people and the 11 cases of out-of-counting in the Yokoya paper probably overlap. These data seem to have contradiction, but they skipped the review committee and sent the results to the world. (A.O.)
