A frequency of basal ganglia calcification by CT scan

A review of CT scan of 5335 patients demonstrated cacification of the basal ganglia in 345 (6.5%), because computerized tomography contributes significantly to the detect to the basal ganglia calcification as such is not visible on a plain skull X-ray. According to investigation by the decade, the frequency of basal ganglia calcification is 4.4% during 5th decade, 5.6% during 6th decade, 8.2% during 7th decade, 10.2% during 8th decade, 15.6% during 9th decade. We conclude that basal ganglia calcification occurred more frequently with increasing age. Only 12 patients of basal cacification have neurological symptoms and signs, and other patients were happened to detect the calcification without neurological abnormalities. In comparison with the frequency which has been reported until now, we report high frequency of basal ganglia calcification because it is caused by improvement of resolusion by a high efficient CT scan, and the examinations in a group which has many old aged people.
