Multifragmentation in 4 He + Au collisions at relativistic energies, studied with the 4 π-setup FASA

Description
The first results of investigations on multifragmentation of a target spectator using the extreme case of the very asymmetric system 4 He + 197 Au at incident energies 1.0 and 3.65 GeV/nucleon with the new 4 π setup FASA have been presented. The data on the fragment mass spectra have been obtained. The sufficient excitation energies which are reached in collision system necessary for production of high intermediate mass fragments have been discussed. For extracting information on the breakup density and the time-scale of the multifragmentation the experimental data on the fragment-fragment correlation at large and small relative angles are discussed. 18 refs., 8 refs., 1 tab
