Description

Problems encountered in continued ultrasonic inspection of PWR pressure vessels and the influence of cladding, vessel shape, grain size of dissimilar metal welds, and type of transducers used are discussed. The solutions proposed to some of these problems, for the inspection of girth-seam welds, spherical head welds, nozzles, safe ends upper flanges, studs and nuts, and the cover, are described. A description is given of the equipment developed for inspection of a PWR vessel from the inside with details of each subassembly and its function. (U.K.)
