  • 1. Akademiya Meditsinskikh Nauk SSSR, Obninsk (Russian Federation). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Meditsinskoj Radiologii

Description

A method to reduce the total toxic effects of iodinated X-ray contrast agents has been developed in experiments by preliminary saturation of the body with pure oxygen or a hyperoxigenated gas mixture. The method was tried in angiographic X-ray contrast examinations of 161 patients. 5-10 min inhalation of hyperoxygenated gas mixture of oxygen immediately before the introduction of the X-ray contrast agents was found to reduce the total toxic effects of these agents, to improve the patients' well-being, alleviate tachicardia and slow down heart beat, calm the respiratory function of the lungs and external respiration biomechanics. Preliminary oxygenation of the body is recommended to prevent complications and to improve the diagnostic efficacy of X-ray contrast examination
