Radioisotopic methods of investigations and results for more complete utilization of the potential life-time of motors

In the Research Institute of the Motor-car Industry by means of the machine parts, activated by neutron irradiation, processes were investigated of the wear of internal-combustion engines. The role of abrasive soilings, coming into the engine from outside and limiting its life-time making accuracy of measurements several orders higher as compared with standard methods of air-filters testing, intended for engine protection from abrasive particles penetration into it, it has been made possible to get the situation when the quality control of these filters had become incomparably more reliable and thus the possibility had been given to develop filters, ensuring complete capture of abrasive particles. By means of the radioisotope indication it has become possible to shorten greatly the time of the standard testing of lubricating oil filters which makes possible to perform mass control of their quality. Experiments conducted in the real conditions of exploitation and on the base of the theoretical assumptions have been proved by the results of the activation analysis and have shown that by this way it was possible to get prolongation of the engines life-time. On the base of the results of these experiments now work is going on of wide introduction of this method, promising considerable economy, in the scale of the peoples economy
