Texture and mechanical properties of titanium VT32 alloy

  • 1. Ural'skij Politekhnicheskij Inst., Sverdlovsk (Russian Federation)

Description

Peculiar feactures of texture formation and mechanical properties of titanium base alloy VT32 were studied on samples cold rolled to 50 % reduction in area and heat treated either in a tube-type furnace within the range of 700 to 1000 deg C or by rapid electrical heating up to 800-1200 deg C with subsequent water cooling. Mechanical properties were determined on samples out along a rolling direction. It was shown that rapid continuous heating up to 1050-1200 deg C made it possible to obtain stable mechanical properties (σu=900-920 Nxmm-2, δ=15 %). Temperature range of active recrystallization was found to shift to high temperature side but texture components mainly preserved due to important role of oriented nucleation
