π0π0 and the σ-meson
Description
A broad low mass scalar state, the old σ meson, has been observed at ∼ 600 MeV with a width of ∼ 500 MeV in the π0π0 invariant mass distribution in the π-p → π0π0N reaction. We discuss possible existence of the σ meson as a Higgs-like meson in connection with chiral symmetry breaking in QCD. (author)
