Description

The CAS reactor (advanced series boiler plant), developed by the C.E.A. and its subsidiary Technicatome, is a nuclear unit which is specially adapted to heat generation. The main characteristics are described and it is shown how the reactor has been designed in order to meet the specific problems raised by its operation. The 'maturity' of the reactor is evoked and its economical competitiveness which appears to be unquestionable is analysed and compared with the units using fossil fuels

Le réacteur CAS (Chaufferie Avancée de Série), mis au point par le C.E.A. et sa filiale Technicatome, est une unité nucléaire spécialement adaptée à la production de chaleur. L'auteur en décrit les caractéristiques principales et montre comment le réacteur a été conçu pour répondre aux problèmes spécifiques posés par son exploitation. Il évoque ensuite la « maturité » du réacteur et analyse sa compétitivité économique — qui apparaît indiscutable — par rapport aux unités utilisant des combustibles fossiles.
