Estimation of air quality in the phase of project of new power plants

Description
This paper summarises the results of the investigation for searching the appropriate model for air quality estimating. The main aim of this task is to describe state of the art of air pollution models. Overview of air-quality models is given. Starting with simple empirical and integral models for emission calculating, including most widely used Gaussian plume regulatory models, continuing with diffusion K-theory models, complex differential models with different order of turbulence closure, ended with meteorological models which are solving Navier-Stokes equations for the planetary boundary layer. Characteristics of models are analysed, with major interest on applicability in practical calculations, complexity, input meteorological data and limitations on each model. Analyses given in this paper can be helpful for choosing the most suitable model for specific application, including dispersion calculations for regulatory purposes, which is most important for countries without established National Regulatory Air-Quality Model, like Republic of Macedonia. Presented analyses are opening new, huge field of activities for maintaining modem Air Pollution Modelling regulation acts, which can he used in estimating air-quality for new power plants. (Author)
