Basic techniques of excited neutral beam

  • 1. National Research Inst. for Metals, Tsukuba, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

Spin polarization of excited neutral beam was studied by photopumping method. Moreover, in order to increase the strength of particle beam, technical development of excited atom beam source for large current pulse drive was carried out. Stable pulse discharge was kept under the various condition of motion by changing from the needle cathode to the hollow cathode of nozzle-skimmer discharge type atomic beam source. The reduced strength of continuous beam of pulse metastable helium atomic beam at 10 mA of average discharge current was 1.2 x 1015 count/Sr.S. The strength of pulse metastable helium atom beam increased lineally with increasing of discharge current. When the discharge strength is increased by increasing heat resistance added by cooling system, strength of beam will increase. (S.Y.)
