Determination of organic chlorine in water using ionizing radiation

Description
The influence of medium alkalinity on gamma-radiation induced dehalogenation of some organic chlorine compounds - potential pollutants of drinking water, has been studied. Radiation absorbed dose rate was 1.4 kGy/h at room temperature in NaOH solutions. The maximum intensity of radiation-induced dechlorination is attained at NaOH concentration of 0.5-0.7 mol/l. In case of irradiation dose of 14 kGy, quantitative transformation of organic chlorine into inorganic chlorine occurs. 10 refs.; 2 tabs
