Specific features of forestry management under conditions of radioactive contamination
Description
More than 1.5 million hectares of Ukrainian forests are subjected to contamination by Cs-137. The forestry management organization is divided into levels because of the mosaic character of contamination density and nuclide composition. The following zones are separated depending on the territory contamination density by Cs-137: 1) when contamination density varies in the limits from 15 up to 40 Ci/km2, the forestry is restricted; 2) agricultural works, purveyance of food and herb resources are made without restrictions at contamination density up to 15 Ci/km2. Mushrooms, berries and herbs are the most highly contaminated on this territory. Constant radiation control of products from the zone with restricted use regime is necessary
