Description

Presented are investigations on bunching of intense, low-energy ion beams in a periodic focusing channel, which is part of a novel type of multichannel accelerator. Analytic models are derived to describe the bunching process in the presence and in the absence of space charge. These models show a good qualitative agreement with multiparticle simulations and with measurements. (orig.)
