Computerized tomographic studies in epileptic patients. Brain atrophy
Description
The brain atrophy problem in epileptic patients is disputable. It is the purpose of the study to detect brain atrophy in this contingent of patients using CT measurements of the ventricular system and sulci cerebri. The study covers 90 patients (men and women at age ranging from 15 to 70 years) presenting various electro-clinical forms of epilepsy. CT measurements are performed with a reference to six parameters, namely: FHI, HZ, CMI, width of third, fourth ventricle and sulci. Comparative assessment of the results is done with CT measurements in a control group of forty age-matched men and women. The obtained results point to a high rate of subcortical atrophy in the group of epileptics (author)
