Significance of bio-organics for mineralisation and dissolution of uranium in the sandstone-type uranium deposit at Domiasiat, Meghalaya, India

  • 1. Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Department of Atomic Energy, Hyderabad (India)

Description

Presence of organic matter in the sandstone-type uranium deposit at Domiasiat appears to be the primary factor responsible for uranium mineralisation, with occurrence of rich microflora in it, particularly Cladosporium herbarum, serving as effective agent for synthesising humic acid and in situ solubilising agencies for formation of water-soluble uranium.
