Quasi two-dimensional vortex fluctuations in high-Tc superconductors

  • 1. Dept. of Theoretical Physics, Umeaa Univ. (Sweden)

Description

Thermal vortex fluctuations for two-dimensional (2D) superconductors and the 2D Coulomb gas scaling concept is reviewed and applied to layered superconductors. The non-observability of a Kosterlitz-Thouless critical region is emphasized. The temperature dependence of the linear term in the 2D vortex-antivortex interaction, caused by the interlayer coupling, is described together with the related critical current. The abrupt 3D to 2D crossover just above Tc is discussed and is illustrated by an analysis of resistance data for YBCO/PBCO superlattices. (orig.)
