Evaluation of safety of Czechoslovak NPPs operation in 1992

A general evaluation is given of safety-related events in the 1992 operation of the V-2 plant in Jaslovske Bohunice and the Dukovany plant. It is based on analyses of the two plants made within the framework of an independent system of nuclear power plant safety and corrective measures implementation, performed by the Research Institute of Nuclear Power Plants. From the viewpoint of safety, problems connected with high-pressure emergency complementary pumps at the V-1 and the Dukovany plants were rated as the most significant. 12 failures were classified in the analyses as incidents of INES-1 level as compared with 10 incidents of the same importance recorded in 1991. The incidents were mainly due to the above-mentioned failures of emergency pumps. Another 9 failures were evaluated as medium-level, INES-0 incidents. The remaining failures were characterized as insignificant from the viewpoint of safety and classified as incidents below INES-0 level. Also presented are an evaluation of the patterns of failures without safety significance, corrective measures, and general conclusions. (author) 2 tabs., 7 refs
