The stopping power of solids for heavy ions

  • 1. Fudan Univ., Shanghai (China)

Description

The stopping powers of C, Al, Cu, Ag, Au and Pb for 7Li ions of 1-6MeV, that of C for 11B, 12C and 14N ions of 1-6MeV and that of a single crystal silicon for 7Li ions of 1-5MeV have been measured with the transmission method. The thickness of self-supported foils is about hundreds μg/cm2. The thickness of the foils is determined by two methods: the first is balancing, the second is calculating the average value determined by energy loss measurement of 4He ions at four energy points in the same sample and the stopping powers of He ions. The stopping powers for 4He ions are calculated by computer program TRIM-91. The error of the measured stopping powers is less than 6%. All results are given in tables and figures. The effective charges of 7Li ions of 140-850 keV/amu have been calculated. The difference between experimental and theoretical results is discussed. The authors results are in good agreement with existing experimental results in the certain energy region. By the way, the ratio of stopping powers of 7Li ions in <111> axis channeling and random direction of the single crystal silicon are also given
