Atomic and molecular spectroscopy with lasers

In this volume the spectroscopic methods as applied to free atoms and molecules are discussed. The first chapter is intended to give a broad overview with an extensive collection of reference material. It is divided into four parts and starts out with a discussion of spectroscopic applications which do not require single-mode lasers. The second and the third part deal with the applications of lasers to chemistry and isotope separation respectively; these two fields have gained great significance in recent years and are closely related to spectroscopy. The fourth and final part reviews briefly the different methods used in high-resolution spectroscopy where the observed linewidth is limited by the natural width of the transitions. (orig./WBU)
